A Song of Home // Author Interview

Good morning, luvs!
(I've always wanted to start a blog post out like that, but it does sound a bit weird coming from me... I'm more of a "Hi Y'all!" or a "Good morning everyone!" type of girl.)

Ahem. Anyways!

Today, I have a super special post to share with you! I'm doing a author interview with none other than Ryana Lynn! Learn more about Ryana on her website, Life of Heritage!

First off, I want to say congratulations on releasing you're forth book in a series, and also happy birthday, Ry!

About the Author:
Ryana Lynn Miller has a unique way of blending her love for history with her love for the Savior. Her continued research is fueled by her desire for truth and details. Her main concern, both historically and Biblically, is to show the past to the present to secure the future.

About A Song of Home:
In war time, everyone is called to fulfill their patriotic duty. But everyone's duty is not the same. For some, it's to soldier on the field of battle. For others, it is to stay back and defend the home front. Still others keep the soldiers clothed and cared for.
“We’re gonna finish this,” Seth murmured. “We’re gonna finish this fight once and for all. They can’t just come in and threaten a man’s family and livelihood just because they feel like it.”
“It’s a hard lesson to teach,” Silas interjected. “The Patriots were outmanned and outgunned, but they taught the redcoats right well. God’s will is most important, and God is the best Teacher. Sometimes He does it Himself, and other times He uses men to teach the lesson.”
Join the Mason family as another year of war dawns with no end in sight. Despair, hatred and death surround them...will they ever know a time of hope, love and peace again?

Bring your family along on another history packed journey full of battle, music, victory and defeat. The war ain't over ‘til the sabers quit clashing!

About the Series:
The Battle for Heritage Series (BHS) is an in-progress five book series on the War Between the States. Each book follows one year of the war, focusing on the Southern perspective. Unlike most books on this period, BHS does not focus on slavery but rather the reason the war was fought: the issue of states’ rights and the right of the people to restore the rightful government as designed by our forefathers. But even though this is important, this is not the main goal of BHS.
Every book includes a clear Gospel presentation, as well as other biblical topics designed to strengthen the believer and disciple the new convert. If you take nothing else from these stories, please take the lessons from Scripture to heart. If not, the goal is missed.
The series follows the Mason family, Silas and Ellen, and their children, Richard, Seth, Dixie, Michael, Thomas, and Virginia Rose, through the years 1861-1865. Having family on both sides allows the reader to discover viewpoints of both sides, though the story is focused on the South’s point of view. Having friends in the North and South, Ryana Lynn endeavors to keep things kind, while realistic and giving the facts.
BHS has reached people in a multitude of states, her best readerships being located in North Carolina, Maryland, Pennsylvania and Ohio. It is her prayer that someday, someone will come to know Christ through her writings. Her life verse, Jude 22, sums up her writing mission: “And of some, have compassion, making a difference.”

Now on to the interview...

1. What makes A Song of Home different than the rest or your books that you’ve written?

Well, that's hard to say...it's part of a series, so it has the same cast and setting, just a new year. I suppose one thing that makes it different is that I've had to skirt around so historical facts to keep the story family-friendly. Not tweaking the facts, just skipping them. I do not need angry mothers chasing me down the road with sticks ;)

2. Was the writing process for A Song of Home smooth, or did it take you awhile to complete?

This book took me quite a while! It' was supposed to come out Spring of 2019...here we are a year after it was supposed to be in the hands of readers. There were major rewrites done January of this year and TBH, it's so much better than my original ideas...though I kinda miss my original ending XP

3. What is your favorite character in this book?

My favorite character would have to be Burdy. He always takes that place, lol! I mean, who doesn't love a sweet lil orphaned drummer boy? Come on! Coming in at a close second is Alvin Willis, my sergeant, and resident heartbreaker. Just... read the book, you'll understand.

4. What is the main message you would like your readers to receive after finishing A Song of Home?

Well, as with all my books, I hope someone will take note of the Salvation message in the book and come to know Christ as their personal Savior. But I also hope it awakens people to duty. Christian duty. The duty to protect and defend your families and country. The duty of maybe being called to watch over the home front. The duty of women as the ones holding things together at home. Just do your duty before God and you'll never go wrong.

5. What are three fun facts about this book?

Ooh, three fun facts! Okay...So for one, originally in this story, the ending was way different...it ended with a wedding. But because of circumstances beyond my control, that changed. Number two, two of my characters that come in contact with each other in this book (who do not know each other) have come in contact with each other before! Let's see if anyone can figure it out before it gets revealed in book 5! And for a third fact...this was the first book in which I placed one of my characters in a position where he did something a historical person actually did. But this person's identity is unknown. So I made note of it in the back of the book to avoid confusion.

6. What is one word of advice to new authors or aspiring authors?

Do your research. Read books about your topic, making sure you have your details correct, especially historical dates and names. If you take liberties, you better explain why you did it or your readers will lose faith in you. That why I noted that my fictional character was filling the position of a real unknown hero. I don't want them to lose their trust in me telling them the truth about history. Also, read books about writing, like Did God Put a Book in You by Jerry Ross, Go Teen Writer: Edit Your Novel by Williamson and Merrill (I don't agree with all their examples) and Outlining your Novel by K. M. Weiland (Also don't agree with all examples.) These are invaluable and are worth the investment!

One more thing... limit your cast of characters (Something I am still working on, lol!) and make character sketches of them! Figure out their personalities and what makes them different from each other. Your editors will thank you!

And above all, pray and ask God for guidance. While I would never say God spoke the words of my book through me, He has certainly guided me in the process and allowed my imagination to figure out the plot puzzles. Include Him in your process, you won't regret it!

7. What first prompted this story?

Well, this series was prompted by a desire to tell the true story of the War Between the States. Many are confused about basic facts and I wanted to set the record straight. So, I decided to write them for myself! Then, I felt God prompting me to share them with others. This book has a strong attachment to music and that came from my love for 1800s music. Civil War folk songs are some of my favorites, and almost every chapter of this book has a line from a song proceeding the story. I wanted to share this fading music with everyone! This book covers the year of 1864...just one book left in the series! Kinda intimidating when you think about it.

Thank you so much for hosting me, Brooklyne!

And thank YOU, Ryana, for letting me be apart of your book tour! <3

Also, the giveaway is for E-copies of all 4 books in The Battle for Heritage Series for 1 recipient, open to international participants!! So what are you waiting for?!

Memorial Day Poem

Today is Memorial Day. It is a day of remembrance to the military men and women who served in the United States of America. A time to remember those who lost their lives serving our country.

I am re-re-posting a poem I wrote in 2018 for Memorial Day (revised version.) I have posted this on the blog each Memorial Day, and it has become a tradition.

Let Us Remember
Written by Brooklyne

Let us remember
The ones who taught
Let us remember
The ones who fought
Marching proud for the U.S.A

Let us remember
The ones who braved
Let us remember
The ones who saved
Fighting for the land of the free

Let us remember
The ones who doctored
Let us remember
The many who died
For the freedom of our country

Let us remember
The ones who stayed
Let us remember
The ones who prayed
On their knees for the battlefield

Let us remember
The ones who trained
Let us remember
The ones in pain
Making a noble sacrifice

Let us remember
The ones who never forget
Let us remember
The ones the battles blow hit
For our home of the free is because of the brave

Let us remember
The One who is true
Let us remember
The One who brought us through
Victory is In God We Trust

1 John 5:4
"For whatever is born of God overcomes the world.
And this is the victory
that has overcome the world- our faith.

What were your plans over Memorial Day weekend? What's your favorite Memorial Day song? What do you think, is it a good idea to make this poem a tradition on Showers of Blessings?

Never Say Goodbye // Author Interview

Good morning, readers!

Today I am participating in a blog book tour featuring a lovely book that I had the privilege of beta reading. This book is such a sweet read and I'm excited to help spread the word about it! If you haven't read Never Say Goodbye yet, you definitely should get your hands on a copy!

 (Keep scrolling to read my book review!)

Author Bio:

Sarah Grace Grzy is a voracious reader, and if it weren’t for this crazy thing called 'Life,' she’d be tempted to spend all her days in front of a wood stove, book in one hand, coffee mug in the other. A lover of learning, she finds enjoyment in many things and has more hobbies than she knows what to do with. Sarah Grace is a freelance web and graphic designer, and when not working, spending time with her ever-growing family, or reading, she can be found painting, playing the piano, or fangirling with her sisters and friends. Sarah Grace inhabits the State of Great Lakes, and wouldn’t want to live anywhere else—unless it meant she could have a baby penguin, in which case, she’d gladly move to the South Pole.

Book Synopsis:

They say time heals all wounds. But he was finding it a poor painkiller.

Tyler Collens has seen grief and loss in his years of experience as a paramedic—but he never expected it to touch his life in such a personal way. The death of his wife eighteen months ago shook his steady world and changed him in more ways than he can count. Time and routine have steadied his feet, and he looks toward the future as he raises his infant daughter—but the past has a tighter grip on him than he knows.

Alyvia Emmerson has never been certain of who she is or where she belongs. Her dad’s abandonment as a teen broke a fragile piece of her heart, but ten years later, she has moved on. Living on her own, she at last has a project to devote herself to: revitalizing a shabby bookstore. But she didn’t count on her dream job revealing the shattered pieces of herself she thought mended long ago.

In this sophomore novel featuring beloved characters from Live Without You, Sarah Grace Grzy explores themes of grief, hope, and second chances in a story that touches both the heart and spirit.

Author Interview:

1. What was your favorite thing about writing NSG? (The writing process, formatting, design, advertising, etc!)

I'm not sure! Every part has its challenges, joys, and struggles. The whole project is a process that I both struggle with and enjoy. If I had to pick a favorite, I think it would either be writing the first draft or the cover design. Even if it was a major struggle at times, writing the first draft is a very special process to me. Also, graphic design is very close to my heart, so designing the cover was a ton of fun for me! I love getting to design my own cover.

2. What is the message you would like your readers to get after reading your book?

One word: Hope. It is my prayer that this story will bring even just a tiny bit of hope to whatever circumstances my readers are going through at the time. We all have something we're going through. I've realized that more and more in these challenging times. So I pray that in the midst of whatever it is that's on your mind and heart, Never Say Goodbye will bring a bit of hope and encouragement to you.

3. Who is your favorite character, and why do they stand out to you?

Hmm, that's a hard one, as all my characters feel so close to me! I think I would have to say Tyler Collens, though. This sweet dude has been close to my heart since my first book, Live Without You. He almost feels like a close friend or brother. Another character who touched my heart but has less of a storyline is a little girl named Lilah. I'm not even sure how she entered the story, but she touched my heart!

4. What was the best part of designing the cover and what was the most challenging part?

Oh, man. Designing the cover was a process. I think I enjoyed getting to experiment with new skills and learn new techniques to achieve the look I wanted. And the most challenging part would be just that: getting the look and design I wanted! I went through so many revisions, and even had some others design a version of it for me to give me some new perspective. (Brooklyne, your version is still my favorite of the other drafts! I loved it so much.)

5. What is a word of advice to pass on to new self-published authors?

I talked about this on my Instagram a while back, and realized this is one of the most important words of advice I would want to give someone. Trust your writing journey into God's hands . . . completely, 100%. I think that was the one most important decision I made when I first started writing, giving it to Him and asking Him to lead and guide me. I think it will blow your mind what He will do with a surrendered heart and pen. He certainly has mine!

6. Target audience?

I think Never Say Goodbye would be enjoyed by a wide audience. If you love stories with realistic characters, raw authenticity, and deep themes, I think you would enjoy Never Say Goodbye!

7. How has God used this story in your own life?

I love this question, because He certainly does use my stories in my own heart and life! As I was writing Never Say Goodbye, I was finding myself discouraged and disheartened by my life's circumstances at the time. I felt like my dreams had been stripped away from me, and while I didn't like where I was, I didn't know where I would rather be. All my plans and hopes seemed so empty, all of a sudden. Then the themes of hope in Never Say Goodbye were starting to speak to my heart, and the things God was speaking to me on hoping and dreaming started filtering into the story.

Thanks so much, Brooklyne! It's been a pleasure. :)

And thank you, SG, for writing such a great book!

~~~
My book review of Never Say Goodbye:
"5 (4.5) Stars. ✭✭✭✭✯
To say I enjoyed Never Say Goodbye would be a understatement. The characters, the setting, and the message throughout this book was amazing! I was privileged for the opportunity to beta read Never Say Goodbye, and I look forward to future books by Sarah Grace Grzy. Can we all take a moment to admire that stunning cover?! *heart eyes*
I really liked the relationship that Ty had with his little daughter, though he was very overprotective at times and that sometimes clouded his judgment. Alyvia was such a neat character! I loved that she loved books as much as I do. Their love story was portrayed nicely and was very clean.
I also really liked how the characters from Live Without You were side characters in this book, and it was nice to learn more about their story along the sidelines of Never Say Goodbye. I would definitely recommend this book to those who like stories with themes of love, forgiveness, and triumph over what life can throw in our direction.”
I let my sister cut my hair!!! // Video
Back in March, I decided to let my sister cut my hair since the salons were closed. After I agonized over the initial decision (I mean, my hair was 30'' people! I was kinda attached to it!) I decided to just go for it!
I'm going to donate the hair we cut off to Wigs for Kids.
But, I also made a video of how my sister cut my hair! (This is one of those things that we looked up YouTube videos the morning of!)
Watch this almost 8 minute video below!
Did you watch the video? What did you think?
Have you ever let your sister cut your hair before?
Self Care Tips from a Amateur
Y'all. This is a tough topic for me. The thing is, I'm not good at self care.
But I do believe taking care of our bodies and minds is truly important (though so often neglected.) It is vital to be good stewards of our bodies. Therefore, today, I bring you Self Care Tips from a Amateur (me!)
1. Breathe
Just. Breathe.
When you feel the stress coming on, take a moment and do some deep breathing. Hold it in for four seconds, then blow air out for four seconds. There are so many benefits to deep breathing but one of them is it lowers your blood pressure and decreases stress.
2. Positive thoughts
Thoughts are so important to mental health. Thoughts--what we allow into our minds--can either make us or break us. When we allow negative thoughts to take us captive, we will become angry and depressed. But if we turn our thoughts around, we have the ability to also turn our frown upside down. It's all in how we look at things.
With positive thinking, "I hate doing the dishes," turns into, "I glad for the ability to wash dishes, and I'm glad for the food that was eaten off these dishes, and I'm glad for the health that the food provided my family."
You get the point. And I think everyone already knows how good positive thoughts can effect us. So why is it so hard to actually practice? I don't know, but I do know that the more we practice positive thoughts, the more we will get accustomed to thinking in positive ways instead of falling into the negative thought patterns.
3. Workout
Not only are you caring for your body when you workout, but you are also channeling some energy into something that will make you feel productive and so much stronger!
But workout the smart way, don't go and hurt your body by trying to lift too much. Work your way up to your goals. And if you need any workout advice, comment below!
4. Shower
Just take a shower. (Preferably after your workout...) Keeping a clean appearance is not only great for the people who are around you, but also one of the best forms of self care!
5. Eat your greens & stay hydrated
What we put into our bodies as fuel is extremely important. My family has found this out the hard way, and eating a healthy lifestyles has been the ultimate struggle of hopping on and off the healthy eating "wagon."
Greens, berries, and grains are some of the amazing power foods for heart health.
It's recommended 2 cups raw greens, or 1 cup cooked for a daily serving. Recommended 1/2 cup fresh or frozen berries, or 1/4 cup dried for a daily serving.
Also, drink your water! It's recommended that you get half of your body weight in ounces.
(Remember, self care is loving yourself enough to take care of your health.)
6. Take free time
When I was a kid, I'd make detailed schedules for my day (most likely, they never got fully completed because my time slots were pretty non flexible, lol.) But, I'd always put "free time" after my schoolwork was done.
And now, I realize that "free time" is actually a great form of self care. Throughout your busy day, give yourself a recess every once in awhile. Take 15, 30, or 60 minutes of just plain free time. Give yourself a break. Set your timer and do whatever you like doing in free time, then get back to work. Free time allows you to recharge for the remainder of you day.
7. Declutter your space
Trust me, you'll feel so much better! And you'll sleep better too! Tidy the house, clean your bathroom, make your bed, sweep the floor, all the while rocking out to some oldies while you do so! Keeping your living space free from clutter is a huge task, but one that is worth it once things are put in order. It's best to take time each day and do something to declutter. Otherwise, it can get overwhelming.
8. Do something fun
Sometimes, you just need to do something that is fun. Something that makes you excited. Something that brings you happiness. Pamper yourself. Do something creative.
If all you do is work, work, work. That is not good self care at all...
9. Fresh air
Get outside. Do yourself a favor and get some Vitamin D. Soak up that sunshine and breath in that fresh air. Go for a walk, get the mail, go for a four wheeler ride, explore the woods. Garden, mow the lawn, play volleyball. Just do something that requires you to go outside and enjoy nature!
10. Read your Bible
I'm awful at this form of self care. But just because I'm awful at this, doesn't mean I can't try my best to get better at reading my Bible. Make time for Bible reading (and not just reading, but studying) because that connection you make with Jesus is going to get you through your day.
How do you care for yourself? Do you have any more Self Care tips to add to my list? Comment below with one thing you like to do in your "free time"!
Many Blessings,
Brooklyne Elysse
The Book of Mark
I read through the book of Mark in April. They say Mark is the first written of the New Testament, so I wanted to read it first. In this post, I'm going to be talking about some of my thoughts on Mark.
Mark 1 & 2
Verses that stood out:
Mark 1:9-13 "It came to pass in those days that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee, and was baptized by John in the Jordan. And immediately, coming up from the water, He saw the heavens parting and the Spirit descending upon Him like a dove. Then the voice came from the heaven, "You are my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased." Immediately the Spirit drove Him into the wilderness. And Her was there in the wilderness forty days, tempted by Satan, and was with the wild beasts; and the angels ministered to Him."
Thoughts: After Jesus was baptized, He went into the wilderness. He knew that His Father was pleased with Him, and wanting to honor His Father, to me, that is one of the ways He was able to not fall into temptation. The wilderness was hard. He's out there by himself with the "wild beasts" and in this hard time is when the devil tries to tempt Jesus. And I think this is a lesson for us. The enemy likes to punch us when we are already down. In life, when we go through the wilderness. When there's already trials, the enemy likes to then pile more and more burden on top of us. Jesus was able to resist. That gives me hope that we, with the help of our Lord, can overcome the temptations of Satan. Why? Because we love our Father, and because of that Love, we want to obey Him.
Mark 1:15,17,18 "and saying, "The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel." "Then Jesus said to them, "Follow Me, and I will make you become fishers of men."They immediately left their nets and followed Him."
Thoughts: Jesus says that the "time is fulfilled." So to me, this means that certain things must take place according to old scriptures and instructions laid by God. Then, He goes on to make a statement. it wasn't a question, it was more of a direct sentence. Follow Me. And immediately, they left all they had and followed Him. The kind of faith they must have had is amazing to me. I believe they were lead by the Holy Spirit to follow Jesus.
Mark 2:17 "When Jesus heard it, He said to them, "Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance."
Thoughts: Jesus came to this world for sinners. And He makes that clear in this verse. He died for the sins of the "sick" world. And that just goes to show how selfless and loving He truly is.
Mark 3 & 4
Verses that stood out:
Mark 3:5 "And when He had looked around at them with anger, being grieved by the hardness of their hearts, He said to the man, "Stretch out your hand." And he stretched it out, and his hand was restored as whole as the other."
Thoughts: Jesus healed on the Sabbath. He ministered on the Sabbath. Something else stood out to me in this verse. It said that Jesus was "grieved by the hardness of their hearts." Sadness, grieving, pain, those are all emotions. Jesus came to earth as a baby, as human flesh. And He very much had emotions. He felt the pain for us. He suffered for us. But here's the thing, do you think that Jesus smiled? We don't hear much about it in the Bible, but I believe that He did! I think that He smiled to ease people's nerves, or to comfort the little children.
Mark 4:11 "And He said to them, "To you it has been given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God; but to those who are outside, all things come in parables."
Thoughts: Jesus spoke in parables. Why? One reason first come to my mind. Maybe He spoke in parables to meet people where they were at by using analogy's they would understand and be familiar with.
Mark 5 & 6
Mark 5:36 "As soon as Jesus heard the word that was spoken, He said to the ruler of the synagogue, "Do not be afraid; only believe."
Thoughts: I love what Jesus said. He is telling this ruler (who believes he just lost his daughter) to no be afraid. To not worry. To not be fearful. But only to believe and have faith.
Mark 6:56 "Wherever He entered, into villages, cities, or the country, they laid the sick in the marketplaces, and begged Him that they might just touch the hem of His garment. And as many as touched Him were made well."
Thoughts: Ah! So many things happen in this chapter! Jesus feeds the five thousand, heals the sick, He walks on water, and calms the sea. So many amazing things to read in this chapter of Mark. We serve an amazing God!
Mark 7 & 8
Mark 7:37 "And they were astonished beyond measure, saying, "He had done all things well. He makes both the deaf to hear and the mute to speak."
Thoughts: Jesus was a Physician. He healed the sick. And performed miracles everywhere He went. Y'all, Jesus still heals the sick today. Jesus still performs miracles in our lives.
Mark 8:2 "I have compassion on the multitude, because they have now continued with Me three days and have nothing to eat."
Thoughts: He is the Child of God, and yet, He has compassion on us to meet our earthly needs.
Mark 9 & 10
Mark 9:35 "And He sat down, called the twelve, and said to them, "If anyone desires to be first, he shall be last of all and servant of all."
Thoughts: We've all heard the phrase, "Last shall be first, and first shall be last." I think that Jesus was trying to teach the disciples how to be humble and meek. They were starting to let their own selfish fame (remember that Jesus drew in large multitudes of people) get to their heads. When we get so caught up in the world, and the positions where we desire to be successful, often times we loose sight of Jesus, and I think that He was warning them of that in this verse.
Mark 10:13-15 "Then they brought little children to Him, that He might touch them; but the disciples rebuked this who brought them. But when Jesus saw it, he was greatly displeased and said to them, "Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of God. Assuredly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will by no means enter it."
Thoughts: I love these verses so much! Jesus loves the little children, all the children of the world... (brownie points if you sing along!) But honestly, Jesus wanted the children to come to Him. He loved them. And He was still teaching His disciples to be humble, have childlike faith, and have a simple trust.
Mark 11 & 12
Mark 11:25,26 "And whenever you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive him, that your Father in heaven may also forgive you your trespasses. But if you do not forgive, neither will your Father in heaven forgive your trespasses."
Thoughts: Jesus is teaching them how to forgive. How to forgive with a willing and soft heart, one that is not hardened. And in that second verse, He tells of the consequence of not forgiving. But here's the thing, I don't think Jesus meant for this to be a fear factor. He never intended to scare people into believing in Him or into forgiving others. He only painted a clear picture. He told facts, and wanted people to be informed. But I don't think He was trying to scare people into forgiving. Because if you truly follow Jesus, then you won't want to hold a grudge against fellow man. If you truly believe in Jesus, then you will want to follow His example by forgiveness those who have done you wrong. You will forgive willingly, not because of fear.
Mark 12:43,44 "So He called His disciples to Himself and said to them, "Assuredly, I say to you that this poor widow has put in more than all those who have given to the treasury; for they all put in out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty put in all that she had, her whole livelihood."
Thoughts: Again, Jesus is teaching His disciples a important lesson. The widow gave ALL that she had, it wasn't much, but it was all of it. We are to give Jesus all of us. All of our hearts, we shouldn't hold anything back.
Mark 14 & 15
Mark 14:61 "But He kept silent and answered nothing..."
Thoughts: When Jesus was being questioned, He made it a point not to defend himself. Jesus knew this was Gods will. And He was setting the ultimate example how to handles oneself. Sometimes less words really speak more.
Mark 15:13 "So they cried out again, "Crucify Him!"
Thoughts: This whole chapter. This verse. This verse made me feel a pain deep down. The horrible treatment Jesus got. The torture He endured to save us from our sins. Wow.
Mark 16
Mark 16:15 "And He said to them, Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature."
Thoughts: Jesus rose from the dead, and this was His message to His followers. To go out into the world and to share the good news of our Savior. To witness to everyone we come in contact with. To love people.
I hope you liked reading this study of Mark. Have you read the book of Mark recently? If so, do you have any take aways to share? Comment below your favorite book in the Bible!
Also, how do y'all like my new blog header?? I really like it!
Mr. Rogers & I Still Believe
Soooo, today I'm posting something I've never posted before! Two movie reviews of sorts! Basically, I'm going to be sharing some of my thoughts regarding the movies A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood & I Still Believe. These are two movies that made me think a lot.
~A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood~
PG
My star rating: 3 stars
My thoughts:
A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood was really good! It felt super long (108 min.) but it had a really good message to it. There were themes of forgiveness. It wasn't my favorite movie by any means, but what I learned from watching it stuck with me enough to write this review.
Lessons to learn:
Mr Roger's demonstrated how to be present in the here and now. He was really good at living in the present. For instance, he was talking on the phone and said something to the effect of "the most important thing in the world right now is talking on the phone to you." (That's not a direct quote, but you get the point) He was genuinely interested in learning about the person in front of him. And that stood out to me. Another thing that I thought was cool, was he walked into a room full of people and the first thing he did was walk over to the baby in the room and start talking to the baby. A lot of people would just overlook the kids in the room, but not Mr Rogers. Those two things made me ponder...
~I Still Believe~
PG
My rating: 2 1/2 stars
My thoughts:
Oh my goodness, how sad! Guys, do not watch this is you are feeling emotional or are sensitive to heartbreaking true stories. I don't cry much on movies at all, but this one had me tearing up. I'm glad I watched this movie, but would never need to watch it again. One time is enough for sure. It's so real. It's been a couple months, and I'm still processing my thoughts and emotions on this movie! The message was powerful, but so heartbreaking. Just wow.
That song is amazing!
There was some things I didn't like how they handled it, but overall, the movie and acting was done well. I gave this movie lower star ratings because of a couple reasons, but one would be just the fact that it was a emotional roller coaster. They crammed so many years of events in this persons life into a one or two hours, as good as it was, it was so draining. I'm not used to movies like that.
Lessons to learn:
Cherish those in your life. Love people. Don't wait. Believe even when it's hard to believe. Live the purpose God has designed for you to live.
Have you watched any of these movies? What was your take away? Comment below! Also note, I'll be posting twice a week again for the month of May.
Many Blessings,
