Nineteen things I learned in 2019

Already a month into the new year, I am still pondering the things I learned in 2019. Twenty nineteen was a year full of amazing highs and challenging lows. But throughout last year, I have grown and learned so much.

I thought I'd do a post about 19 things I have learned in 2019. Well, it turned out to be a rather long post, so get comfy!

1. I've learned: Comfort zones are meant to be surpassed.

I have always been afraid of leaving my comfort zone. Fear has a way of paralyzing me and holding me into place, never letting me grow into the person God made me to be. Fear has put a comfort zone in my way and I have a choice each and every day as to what I do about it. I can either stay safe where I am, or chance something that could be potentially amazing. This year, I have learned to take a few chances. I have learned to be more spontaneous and adventurous. To embrace new things and learn from the past. I have overcome a lot of doubt, and I still am working through my fear, but I know one thing's for sure... my Jesus continues to go with me wherever life takes me outside of my comfort zone. It's outside of my comfort zone that I see my need to rely on Him. In 2019, I learned that comfort zones only confine us, and they are meant to be surpassed. Those boxes we put ourselves in as excuses are meant to be barged down.

2. I've learned: Life is darn hard sometimes. But it doesn't have to be all the time.

Yep, I'm being very blunt when I say that life isn't always smiling faces, epic adventures, fun times, happy friends. Life can be downright cruel--to all of us. It can punch us while we are down. And no one is excluded from the hard times, the rough days, the difficult nights. Everyone goes through seasons of hurt and change. It's OK to feel, but it's not ok to stay down for long. It's not ok to let your bad days and the pain you feel right now rule your life. It's OK to cry, but it's OK to heal. It's OK to be angry, but it's not ok to distance yourself from those who love you and the God who loves you even more than you could ever imagine. Bad things happen, sin exists, loved ones pass away, etc but we've gotta start looking up. God is still working on our hearts. We have to let Him in or the pain we feel will never have a chance to be overcome. When we feel like life is getting to much for us to carry, lets remember that this feeling won't last forever, because with God's help... we will overcome it.

3. I've learned: Dreams take shape in His own time.

I have a few dreams that I feel like God has either forgotten about, or that they're on the back burner for some odd reason of His. But ya know what, I'm learning that it's ok to let God's timing be perfect. Why would I try to rush something that He already made Perfect just for me?

4. I've learned: It's worth it to make good choices.

For anything really. We each have choices to make, and it's worth it to make the right one. I struggle with exercising and eating healthy. Oh, I can pull it off for a couple months, but what gets me is the constant decision making that keeps those healthy habits consistent. Consistency is key with lots of things, and healthy eating/exercising is no exception. I go in and out, and I'm learning that it really is worth it to make good choices, even if it's hard.

5. I've learned: The comparison game is inevitable, but it's what you do about it in your heart that matters.

Yup, you know it. We all struggle with the "grass is greener" comparison game. It's human nature. We are going to go through seasons of feeling like so and so has it all together, or they are better at this or that, or what's her name is just plain prettier than I am. You name it, the comparison game is not all fun and games. Everyone knows the pang of feeling less than your own expectations, I've felt it many times. But it's what we do about it in our heart that truly matters. We must change our heart and learn to love ourselves where we are at. We need to look at our mindset, our thoughts. Why can't we show ourselves some grace, like we would for any of our loved ones?

6. I've learned: I overthink things... A LOT.

It's apart of my personality to overthink and analyze something until it turns into a pulp. I have learned this about myself in the last year. But I've also learned to try and take a step back from from it all and to just breath. Because sometimes there is a simple explanation for something, or things don't have to be as complicated as I seem to want to make them.

7. I've learned: The expectations I thought were from the world were really my own expectations.

I thought the world had a view of how things were supposed to be (which it kinda does) but in my situation, it was me who had decided to put so much pressure on myself. God has a plan and that plan might differ from what I have expectations for. We have to learn to let God's plan override our own earthly plans.

8. I've learned: To put my phone down more.

Why why WHY is it so hard for this generation-- for me-- to put my silly phone down? Why am I so obsessed this little rectangle sporting a screen? What I'm learnING: to live in the present and not to live on my phone. It's a struggle, that's for sure, but I would hate to miss out on those special moments in life (the ones I so-often take for granted) when my attention is spent on my phone.

9. I've learned: That having friends is nice, but it's family that is always in my corner.

This year, I've really pondered friends and friendships. I don't have many "friends" but I have a handful of friends that I can really count on, as well as some awesome blogger friends. (Just a shoutout to all my blogger friends, thank you! You probably will never know how much having online friends has helped me...) At first, I tried to tell myself that it was weird that some of you actually wanted to be friends with me. I'm really not that cool. And if you think I'm cool then I'm probably just trying too hard to be. Well, I soon realized somthing. It's ok for me to have friends, friends that I can count on to pray for me or to have inside jokes with. Friends that share commonalities with me. I love having friends, but I went through a season where I became jealous of others having so many friend clicks compared to me (see number 5, lol).  I realized something else... my true and loyal friends are my actual family members. Because they have seen me at my worst and still think I'm pretty awesome. Family is my everything. By getting caught up in wishing for friends, I took for granted that I already have family who make the best of friends. So I'm learning to really cherish my friends as well as family.

10. I've learned: Joy is harder to find than happiness.

Sometimes joy is within our grasps, but it's just too hard to truly capture it. Happiness is easy when things are going good, in fact, when things are going good, even joy is easy to find. But it's when things aren't so fine, that Joy can be felt. I'm still searching for true Joy in the good times and the bad, but I know that it is possible to find.

11. I've learned: Even change is ever-changing.

Everything changes. E.v.e.r.y.t.h.i.n.g. All the more crucial to live in the moment.

12. I've learned: Music is one of my favorite things.

I've always known I like music, but this year, it's played more of a larger roll. Music encourages, it uplifts, it sets the mood, it helps you get through cleaning your bedroom *winks* etc! I've come to find my own taste in music, and I've also stepped out of my comfort zone by actually letting people hear my voice when I sing. 'Cause life is too short to not sing your heart out every once in a while.

13. I've learned: That opportunities arise and we get the choice to take them or leave them.

I have had so many new opportunities pop up, and it's kinda exciting to take them. A lot have worked out and been great, others haven't turned out so well. Some doors open, others close. But each opportunity gives us a chance to grow. And sometime the growth overrides the disappointment when they don't pan out...

14. I've learned: Let yourself be yourself.

Yes. I just quoted a hallmark moving that I'm watching (I'm a good multitasker). But it's true. If you don't know who you are, then you're not going to get very far. Because you can't be the person you think others want you to be for very long... you can't pretend to be someone you are not. I've learned that it's ok to find who you are and it's ok even if you are different than mainstream.

15. I've learned: My style.

A couple years ago, I went shopping with my mom on a quest to find "my style"... but I couldn't seem to figure it out. This year, I believe I've found it! This might not be a big deal to anyone, but for me, it's pretty neat because usually I'm so indecisive about things that I like. Now I know what colors I'm drawn too, styles in jewelry that I like, hair styles, etc! I strongly believe that everyone has their own special style and flair that they bring, it's neat to actually find mine.

16. I've learned: That not everything picture worthy deserves to be captured.

Taking pictures is my thing. I love capturing small moments. Looking back on memories through pictures. Snapping that perfect shot brings me such joy. Yet, I'm learning that not everything photogenic or picture worthy needs to be captured. Some things are just too special to take pictures of. It's hard for me to not want to take pictures of literally everything, but I've had to remind myself to take a step back and enjoy things with my own eyes, and not just through a lenses or a phone screen. Take the stars for example, the new phones they're coming out with these days (I sound like a granny, lol) can actually take pictures of the stars. I think it's silly because stars deserve to be seen by eyes only... they are just too special. Maybe this is just me, but it's what I've been learning to appreciate more.

17. I've learned: Expectations can ruin everything.

Lets face it, it's almost impossible to go into a unforeseen situation without having at least a couple expectations of how we want things to go. So that's why I've found that it's important to remind myself when I go into a situation, to have less expectations. This way, there is less of a chance that I will get disappointed. And by going into a situation with less expectations, we are able to be more flexible with our plans!

18. I've learned: To be more open to God's plans.

My plans are some of the time different than what God has beautifully mapped out for us. Through 2019, I've been learning to keep my mind open to God's change of plans.

19. I've learned: I'm never alone.

Being in a big family, one might assume I never feel alone. Everyone feels alone now and again despite how many people you surround yourself with. Through each of those times last year, I look back now and realize that I was really never alone. We are never alone. Look around you and you'll see that there is always someone in your life that cares. Always. And let's not forget that Someone has promised never to leave us or forsake us. So lets remember in this new year that we are never alone. God is always, always watching out for us!

December Wrap-UP post!

Wow! What a month! December was rather eventful, and it flew by super fast (haha, I always say that!) But anyway, some big things happened, and I hope you enjoy reading this wrap up!

~December started with a 5k race. We ran hard, and enjoyed doughnuts at the finish line. #priorities I was super excited to be able to run this race, and it was extra special. I got tenth place in my age group!

~We drove by one of our old houses. It's weird to see a house you grew up in, all the memories and all that.

~I participated in a Christmas book exchange and had a super fun time putting together two packages for two pretty awesome gals.

~I received a order of promotional items that I designed for my small business! I love how everything turned out! :)

~Catching sunsets with pink fluffy clouds. (well, not literally catching them... ya know, with a camera!) I apologize for my over-thinking of one simple sentence! *facepalm*

~My older cousin asked me to look over her college paper (since I'm a writer and all *winks*) So I spent 3-4 hours working on it with her... hey, sorry, but I have a fine toothed comb, lol.

~My sweet, darling horse decided to jump aka body-slam our barn gate. Yeah, I don't think it worked out like she had planned.

~Driving by Christmas lights in the dark. *shakes head while writing this* duh, in the dark...

~Packaging soap!

~A fun day shopping with my favorite people.

~Frost-laced leaves that I HAD to photograph...

~*tries to take bookcase shelfie only to use up lots of photo space on phone and goofing off more than anything* So, note to self, when I'm board things can get comical pretty darn fast.

~Drawing a snowman with stick arms (fairly normal, oh wait, it gets better) and stick legs... Then a snowman beside it "melting" with the caption "Some people are worth melting for." Again, one of my board moments.

~Sunset silhouettes.

~Large soap order shipments.

~Receiving steak in the mail for Papa's 70th birthday from his home state... *wink wink*

~Frozen Hot Chocolate Drinks! And regular hot chocolate!

~Making Sock Snowman for a babysitting craft, then again for a tutorial!!

~Hand-lettering signs to put on a cinnamon roll "Rollin' by to say Merry Christmas!"

~Designing a trifold program for a church event! I'm actually extremely proud how they turned out! ...I was a bit worried! But they looked great, if I do say so myself!

~Making two batches of soap in one day!

~Practicing music for above said church event. I sang with my mom and auntie. (btw, it went better than I thought, and I survived getting up front in church!)

~Snow! AND then it vanished and we ended up NOT getting a white Christmas.

~Quote for this month, "We can't always choose the music life plays for us, but we can choose how we dance to it."

~Learning to be spontaneous by flying for the first time in exactly one whole decade!

~I was so blessed by the opportunity to spend a week on the beach with some of my very favorite people! <3 It was a much needed getaway that I enjoyed every minute of it! Making loads of memories, taking many pictures, eating lots of Mexican street corn (if you haven't tried it, your missing out!), searching for shells, time-lapse sunsets, movies, ocean waves, funny selfies, dolphins!!!, chilly walks on the beach, ice cream for breakfast, making a sand snowman, shopping, trying not to get a sunburn (in December!!!), etc. We had a blast! And I don't think anyone will ever know how much that trip meant to me...

~Christmas cookie baking for two days! It was epic! And I must say, they turned out super!

~Christmas Eve dinner.

~Family timing photo's, hopefully you know what I'm talking abt.

~Christmas Day: Nursing home, nachos, family pictures, yummy dessert, way to many cookies, stairs challenge (quite fun!), picnic table challenge (quite funny!), late night movies.

~My future husband is out there somewhere... trying to push a pull door, I just know it.

~Me: bangs head into glass shower door. Also me: bursts out laughing all by myself. 'Cause sometimes you just gotta laugh at yourself!

~I ate a whole bag of my Auntie's candy (its like Swedish fish, but a natural spin-off) ...and now it's a continuous inside joke.

~The picnic table challenge was hilarious! Just google it, and try it! Me and my little sister were the first to conquer it!

~Me: *has super weird dream* Also me: starts writing a tearjerker dream spinoff that is hopefully not as weird as the dream itself. This story is top secret as of now though, so lips sealed.

~Realizing that "this is how we roll" really is my whole families motto/phrase.

~Me: Sees typo on a project I had already sent in. Also Me: oh no! What should I do!? Mom: It's ok, they'll get the point.

~New adventures (yes, scary too, but it's awesome at the same time!)

~Sunsets, ocean waves, spending time with my mom, auntie, and nannie.

~Rocking out to Christmas music.

~Baking cookies.

~Well, I did a whole long page of what I learned in 2019... maybe I will post it, maybe I won't. Idk yet. But just for this month:

~I've learned to pray when I'm terrified.

~It's ok to feel.

~To push through my reading slump! Thanks fellow readathoners!! <3

~To think positively, despite wanting not too.

~To cut ourselves and others some slack.

So tell me, how was your December? Did you have a good Christmas? Any funny, cool, awesome things happen in your month? Yay or Nay on this new Wrap UP format? Comment and let me know!

P.S. No photo dump today... but to let you in on a secret, this month, there will be a whole post dedicated to a photo dump! So stay tuned for that!

Life Happenings & I'm Back // WOW

ASDFGHJKL!! I'm back!!! And boy, do I have lots of "life happenings" to talk about! Today's post is going to be similar to a wrap-up post (same concept) but in a different format...

Without further ado: my November Recap!

~I Had a Birthday~
Just for all you younger girls who think nineteen is such a big number, trust me, it doesn't feel like it now that I've arrived. How this will be my second year as a "adult" is beyond me...
But, hey, turning nineteen wasn't as scary as I thought it would be! I celebrated my birthday by having "chicken" dumplings with 7-layer salad and apple dumplings for dessert! It was a lovely birthday, and special in many ways. Special thanks to those of you who sent me b-day gifts, messages, etc. Y'all. are. the. sweetest! <33

~Hot chocolate~
Believe it or not, hot chocolate has actually played a huge role in my November! Not only is it delicious (especially how my sisters make it) but it also has that Fall/Winter #vibe! I may or may not have taken a multitude of "Hot Cocoa" pics! ;)

~Video Chats~
I kinda sorta FaceTimed with a blogging bestie for three whole HOURS! Then two hours the next week! And then a third time a couple weeks after that! #scheming #bookshelftours #funtimes

~Sister Staycation~
Mom and Dad had a weekend trip and us girls stayed home to hold down the fort. We did face masks, movie marathons, built horse fencing, you know, the typical things that three sisters do. And of course, made sure the animals were cared for... and tried to keep the house mostly clean.

~It SNOWED!~
It snowed for the first time this year! And the snow came super early for us! It looked like a winter wonderland out there, and we scrambled to get all out winter gear from the attic in time. Course, now it's just muddy...

~Soapmaking~
I'm trying to have enough stocked up for Christmas time, my busiest soap selling season!

~Writing~
Hmm, I'm not sure what to say under this category. A huge part of my hiatus was to get more focused on my writing, and I feel like I have. But I'm also discouraged. It's almost as if I want this too bad, and God is asking me to be patient. With myself. With my writing. So, I didn't reach the Nano goal, or my personal goal for that matter. But I did make a pretty good sized dent in my story, and I am thankful for that. Nano didn't go like I thought it would, but I truly believe that with a little perseverance, I can write a story that will make a impact. I just gotta learn to stop beating myself up about not being fast enough at writing. My words might not be the best quality in the first draft, but giving up this dream is not a option.

With that said, no snippets yet. Sorry, maybe someday... :)

~Shopping Spree~
My mom, two sisters and I went into big town for a day of shopping (as part of my birthday gift...) We had lots of fun and I got bell bottom jeans and winter boots! <3

~Car Wreck~
I was in my first car accident, and I am so thankful God protected us. We were on our way home from  shopping when at a intersection, a car t-boned a truck that hadn't stopped for a stop sign. We were slowing down to turn, and after both vehicles hit each other, they both came slamming into our Ford. Both other vehicles had to be towed away and their air bags had gone off. Thankfully, everyone was ok, but one lady had to be taken to the hospital. It was very scary, I will admit. But God kept us safe.

~Baptisms at Church~
On Sabbath, three people made the decision to be baptized!

~Escape Room~
This was my second time doing a escape room/break out room and we had a blast! And it was my first time we had actually made it out! We celebrated by going out to eat. :)

~I met a blogger friend in REAL LIFE!!!!~
ASDFGHJKL!!!! Like, whaaa? Who am I? Surely not my mom's shyest daughter who would have never even dreamed about meeting online friends! This year, I have learned to step outside of my comfort zone...a lot, and God has done some wonderful things for me because of it! Meeting with this lovely was such a great out-of-the-blue opportunity and I was so glad we got the chance to meet and spend the day with each other! We had a really fun time with her and her fam!

~Babysitting~
I got a babysitting job once a week watching three boys while their moms are in a Women's Bible Study at church. We do lots of fun stuff like active games and then crafts (and don't forget the snacks!)

~New Phone~
My old phone wasn't working right, so we ended up getting a new one! (but now I have to figure out a new phone, which I get a bit frustrated when I can't figure out why it won't let me comment on blogs! *headdesk*)

Also, because of this reason, I can't do a photo dump as I had planned. Hopefully I can figure out how to transfer some of my pictures on my old phone... sorry abt that!

~Playlists~
On said new phone, I'm starting to build my playlists! It's been a lot of fun! Feel free to recommend to me some or your favorite songs!

~Thanksgiving~
Thanksgiving this year was AMAZING! We had the best food ever! All I can say is, my mom, auntie, and nannie sure know how to cook/bake! After our Thanksgiving meal, we had some awesome family time... we played games, and did karaoke in the living room. The next day, we did a scavenger hunt (a tradition) and then went and watched Playing With Fire. Btw, its a hilarious movie! :)

~5K Race~
My family and some friends participated in a Turkey Trot 5k as well as celebrated my nannies birthday! It was so much fun. <3

How was your November? Anything new happen around the blogosphere while I was away? I hope you are staying warm and having a great December so far!
I can't believe in one month it will be 2020! :)

I will be taking a hiatus from blogging for the month of November. I know this will help me focus more on my writing, even though I wish I could keep blogging. But with that said, I'm hoping to come back in December fresh and ready to continue blogging! Thanks for understanding. And I hope y'all have a wonderful November!

How was your October? What is one thing God has been teaching you? Have you ever put in horse fencing? What is your favorite soap scent? Are you going to do NanoWriMo?

Wrapping Up My September

September has come and gone. And with it, the heat of Summer has turned to a Autumn. As much as I love summer, Fall has it's own charm that I also get excited about. Like... sweater weather, people! And crisp mornings, cozy blankets, good books, and all the Fall colors that I love!

If I were to sum up my September in one word, it would be: busy. For not having a full time job, or even classes to keep up with, I am a very busy person. Seems like my to-do list is never ending.

Anyway, lets talk about my month, shall we?

Mom showed this to me from Facebook:
"WHY I HATED MATH:
In class:
5 + 5 = 10
Homework:
734 + 555 - 432 / 69 = 12.42
Test:
With 2 sheep flying, one yellow and the other headed right, how much does a pound of asphalt cost, given that the cow is 10 years old?"

^^Now THAT made me laugh! XD

Golden Cornfields ready for harvest~Morning sunrises that are always so pretty but never the same~

I love my Mom: you are so special to me. We are a great team, and I am blessed to be your daughter
I love my Dad: you are such a cool dad, thanks for working so hard to provide for us. You're the best.
I love my big sis: you will always have my back and I yours. We sisters stick together through thick and thin.
I love my lil' sis: You always make me laugh. I love spending time with you and know I can trust you with all my secrets.

Hmm, I'm learning a lot~And a lot~But it's hard to put into words~I'm learning how to run a small business~How to better manage my time (because, y'all, I need help in this area!)~How to smile more and worry less~How to put my phone down and live in the moment (why is this so hard for the generation we live in?)~I read slower than I think I do~Lets just say I brought 4 books on vacation and only read 7 chapters~Sad, I know!~I'm learning that Gods plans are higher than my own~That time flies~That it's ok to be you and not someone else~That there is no rush to get it all figured out because God's Will is the only timetable that matters.
