That Moment When Life is Like a Roller Coaster

That moment when you wait in line, not sure of what the roller coaster is going to be like.
That moment when you fasten your seat belt.
That moment when you say a prayer.
That moment when it starts off.
That moment when you start your slow climb to the top of a steep incline.
That moment when your almost to the top.
That moment when you want off the ride… right now!
That moment when the roller coaster goes from strait up to strait down.
That moment when your hanging on for dear life.
That moment when you can't breath.
That moment when you scream.
That moment when you raise your arms up.
That moment when the rides over in a second.
That moment when you laugh.
That moment when you go and ride it again.

Roller coasters go up and down, right and left, upside down and right side up. They might seem unpredictable, but really, they are mapped out and planned to go wherever it’s tracks take them. When riding a roller coaster, you might be having the time of your life, you might be scared for your life, or both.

I think roller coasters are fun, but don’t ask me to go on one that goes upside down. Nope, no thanks, I would rather live a nice and long life.

Some rides make me dizzy, others, I want to ride over and over again. Some rides I am terrified while on them, but when its over, I’ll think that it was super fun!

I guess what I’m trying to say is, just like the roller coaster goes up and down, right and left, upside down and right side up, so does our emotions when we are on them.

Isn't this so much like life is?

That moment you are waiting, not sure of what’s ahead.
That moment you are getting ready.
That moment you are saying a prayer.
That moment you are starting a new season in life.
That moment you are moving slow, but you know that it won’t always be this way.
That moment when you feel like you are on the top of the world.
That moment when you regret a decision.
That moment when life plummets strait down at record speed.
That moment when you are hanging on for dear life.
That moment when it hurts so bad.
That moment when you scream.
That moment when you finally are joyful.
That moment when you are out of the woods.
That moment when you laugh.
That moment when it starts all over again.

Although your life might feel unpredictable and scary at times, always remember that God laid out your life's tracks. He built it and mapped it out just for you, and His ways are always better than what any man-made plan can even begin to compare too.

Enjoy where you are on this crazy roller coaster ride they call life. Because one day you’re going to look back on all that you have been through, all the times that flew by so fast. Times that were fun and times that were terrifying. When that season in life is over, you might even miss it, wishing it back.

Life is like a roller coaster. Take the chance, pray always, and cherish ALL of the ride, both highs and lows. Trust Him with the outcomes of each situation.

Stay rooted to the “tracks” that God has made for you, and thank Him for the carefully laid plan that He has for you, because when we are following God’s plan for us, there is no limit that is too high or too hard for us.

Do you like roller coasters?
Can you see how roller coaster rides and life are so much alike?
How can we enjoy this ride, even if it's hard? How can I pray for you?
Let's talk!

  1. Um, wow, yes, this post was amazing. Definitely spoke to me. Thanks for sharing. <33

I've only been on one roller coaster in my entire life, but it was rather fabulous. XD Our youth group went to an amusement park last spring and a group of us stood in line over an hour to ride... The guy next to me claimed I screamed so loud he couldn't hear afterwards... xD

    1. Aww, thanks! It spoke to me too, as I am in a time or "season" in my life, that it does feel like a whirlwind of a roller coaster ride. I don't know what's around the next sharp turn or bumpy hill, but I do know that God is the One in control of my "tracks," and for that, I am so grateful!

I have ridden roller coasters a few times (more so when I was younger) but just this last summer, we rode some and there was one that was super big! I was terrified! I tried to scream, but honestly, I had my breath taken away! And then, when it was over, it was fun! (Sort of, I mean, I only rode that one once...)
Sounds like you had fun with your youth group! I know, lines can be very long! Hehe, I don't think I would want to sit next to you on a roller coaster ride, then! *winks* :)

  2. This is so true! Right now, life definitely feels like a roller coaster ride, and it will continue on through November, I’m sure. (I actually don’t like roller coasters; my mind likes to jump to worst-case scenarios. XD) Very thought-provoking!

    1. Life really is like a roller coaster with it's ups and downs! November is going to be a crazy month for me too! *winks* I'll pray your November is a smooth ride!

(My mind jumps to the worst case scenarios too!) With roller coasters and life, I worry to much about the "what if's." If only I could just let it go, and let God handle the unknown. I love the verse in the Bible that talks about not worrying about tomorrow... Matthew 6:34. Because ultimately, He knows what's best.

I'm so glad you found this post thought-provoking, Nicole!

  3. What a clever analogy! (That's an analogy, right? I dunno...XD) I actually love roller coasters but hardly ever get the chance to go. :)

    1. Thanks, Mallory! (Yes, I would say that it is an analogy! =D) Most roller coasters are fun! With the acceptation of upside down ones, of course! I especially like the water ones!!! Thank you for reading!

  4. My life has been a roller coaster lately.
    Loved this!

    1. Life can be crazy sometimes, can't it?! But even though it's a wild ride, buckle up and keep praying, God's got a plan for you! <3
      Thanks for commenting, Skye!

  5. this post is, well, amazing. thanks for the reminder!

i've never been on a roller coaster but always have wanted to. though my siblings say that would never be able to survive it!

    1. Aww, thank you so much, Liberty!

Roller coasters are pretty fun! Sometimes they can be scary though! I won't ride the crazy ones...

      Thanks for stopping by! XD

    2. You're welcome!

      I might try a not-so-scary one someday!

  6. I loved the analogy between roller coasters and life! :) Yes, life can seem like a roller coaster at times.
I've been on a few roller coasters on my senior trip with my fellow homeschooling grads, but I'm with you. Usually I'm rather terrified on some of them, but then enjoyed them and was glad I did it afterwards. (But I will say, I HATE the ones that hang you over the edge way up in the sky, and then plummet down suddenly. I saw one of those when we went on our senior trip, and I was like nope, nope! :-P)

    1. Thanks, Christina! <3
Yes, some of those roller coaster rides can be more fun when it's over, if that makes sense! The one you described sounds pretty terrifying! I think I would have opted out of that one too! :)

  7. What an amazing post! Thank you so much, I needed this. <33

    1. I'm so glad this came when you needed to read it! Although things in life can speed by so quickly, fluctuating up and down, turning this way and that, I find that it is comforting to remember that God doesn't change. He loves us so much, and because of that love, He has laid out a perfect plan for each of us. I hope that this post was encouraging to you! <3

  8. Ah yes, life is like a roller coaster. :D
Great post, Brooklyne! I like how you pointed out that even though it seems like roller coasters are unpredictable, it’s really all mapped out. In life it may seem like everything is unpredictable, but God has a plan.
    Anyways, thanks for sharing.

    1. Life really can feel like a roller coaster at times!
Thanks, Sarah! Yes, God really does have a mapped out plan for us, no matter how crazy things can get.
      Thank you for commenting! <3

  9. I haven't been on a roller coaster in sooooo long...I still remember the first time I went on "the big one." We were starting to go up the loooooong way up, and I was all "what have I done?????" and then my brain was like "you're strapped in, they've done the math, you're not going to get hurt." So then I threw my hands in the air and just enjoyed it. Once I even went on that same coaster, front seat, three times in a row in succession. Just gotta be brave and go for it, you know?

    1. Roller coasters are fun! Scary sometimes, yes, but most of the time fun!
"What have I done" or "its to late to get off now" are usually what runs through my head up the looooong hills too! Then, its basically mind over matter, trust over fear. (<-- using that phrase in a post talking about something sort of crazy I did on a vacation... keep your eye out for that post!)
But isn't it so true?! Whoever made that roller coaster did the math and built it very sturdy...(I hope)
The amazing thing is, God has done this in our lives! He has done the math, mapped out our course, and His plan for our lives is sturdy and secure. Even more so than any roller coaster ride! And if we trust those who make the rides, then shouldn't we be able to trust the One who made our "ride" even more?! God is in control, and though our lives might feel out of control sometimes, it's up to us to trust Him with the unknown.
Isn't it funny how roller coasters can be really scary the first time, and then when it's over, it was so fun you do it over and over! :)
Being brace and going for it is exactly what you've got to do sometimes! :)

  10. Yes, I see the similarities! I enjoyed this post, Brooklyne. :) And I also meant to comment on your previous post - it was great. I'm always inspired by stories like that. xx

    1. I'm so glad you enjoyed reading this post! Thanks so much for commenting, Jessica! <3
