I am hosting a contest!!! *More confetti and sparkles and sprinkles too* XD

Yes, you read that right! I have decided to host a flash fiction writing contest!!! This contest is going to be super fun because there will be two prizes for two winners!

So how's this going to work? Let me tell you.

Rules:

Since all good contests have rules, Showers of Blessings 100th Post Flash Fiction Contest will not be the exception. Follow the rules carefully, because I want this contest to be as organized as possible.

-All flash fiction entries can be whatever genre and writing style you prefer.
-All flash fiction entries must be a original work that has not won any other contest before.
-All flash fiction entries must have a word count between 350 and 500 words. Stories shorter or longer than 350 and 500 words will not qualify.
-All flash fiction entries may not have any curse words or taking the Lords name in vain. If the story has bad language, it will not qualify.
-Deadline to enter is Wednesday September 4th, 2019 at midnight. Entries sent in after the deadline, will not qualify.
-Contest results on Monday September 9th, 2019
-All participants who are under the age of 18 must have a parents permission because if you win, I will be needing your address...
-You can only enter one flash fiction piece per participant.
-Email your entry to: wofgoatsmilksoap@gmail.com
-In your email, you must tell me what age group you are in, how many words your story has, and where the story idea came from.
-USA residents only. (So sorry to all my international friends!)

Ages:

There will be two age categories. Since I know some of my blog readers are younger and I want y'all to have a chance to participate, there will be two age groups and two prizes, one for each!

-Age group number one: 10-17 years old
-Age group number two: 18 and up

Judges:

To make this as fair as possible, I won't be doing the judging of this contest. I have picked three lovely judges that have gladly volunteered!

Judge number one: My mom

My mom is a homeschool teacher and has a keen eye for little details. She will be grading your flash fiction pieces on grammar, punctuation, sentence structure, etc!

Judge number two: My older sister

My big sis loves reading, and will be grading your flash fiction pieces on plot, short story structure, characters, and overall story flair.

Judge number three: My little sister

My younger sis makes a great judge because she will be grading your flash fiction pieces on how it flows, how the story comes across, and if it holds her attention.

A hint about the judges:
I thought I'd tell you a little about the judges so you can choose or write your flash fiction accordingly. Some of the things that the judges would love to see in your story might include animals, friendships, strong family values, excitement, suspense, etc. Some of the things that the judges would probably not get into as much would be fantasy themes, dragons, darker scenarios, and violence.
(So that's just a tip about the judges preference in their reading material...)

Prizes:

Since there will be two age groups, there will be two prizes as well!

For the younger age group (Age group number one) the prize will be one (1) bar of goats milk soap, three (3) handmade scrunchies, and one (1) mystery item. Trust me, your gonna like it!

For the older age group (Age group number two) the prize will be one (1) bar of goats milk soap, three (3) handmade scrunchies, and one (1) mystery item. Trust me, your gonna like it!

Note: The winners get to pick out their soap scent! You can choose either Lavender Oatmeal, Warm Cinnamon Spice, or Jasmine Dreams!

~~~
Isn't this so exciting? *jumps up and down* *throws more confetti*
Also, I wanted to say a huge thank you to all my blog readers and followers! Y'all are the best! Thanks for reading what I write, and thanks for making blogging so much fun! I still can't believe I've posted 100 posts!
I am so blessed to have this platform to make friends and share my writing! <3 <3 <3
Off the top of your head, what has been your favorite post of mine-- out of the 100? Are you SO excited about the contest? Are you going to enter? Do you like writing Flash Fiction? Was this a fun surprise?? Taco 'bout it in the comments!
#writersunite Tag + WIP Collab with Rebekah Ashleigh!
Hey everyone! Today's post is the #writersunite Tag again! Just this time, I'm doing it with my sweet friend, Rebekah Ashleigh!
Last time (go HERE to read) I talked about my Historical Fiction WIP, Dakota's Dream. But today, I will be talking about another one of my WIPs-- Third Chances! Third Chances is coming along slow and steady. It's the first book in what I hope to make into a trilogy someday! I will be sharing about it in this post!
And Rebekah will be sharing from her new WIP: A Season of Change! Also, make sure to check out Rebekah's blog for the other half of this tag! We both answer 10 questions on each blog...
So lets get started, shall we!?
~~~

1. What inspired the idea for writing this story?

Brooklyne- I needed to write some new projects and started a short story. The words just kept flowing until it became a trilogy idea. The first scene was actually a really deep meaning one to me because the MC was struggling with God and having a hard time trusting, something I really could relate to at the time.

Rebekah- Well, I had an idea for a different story that I really wanted to write, but it just wouldn’t come to me. So I decided to try something simpler but I didn’t know what. I thought about a few different ideas, but one day this one just came to me and it stuck.

2. What message would you like your readers to gain from reading your WIP?

Brooklyne- God is a God of mercy and forgiveness. And whatever your story is, He has a perfect plan for you and can give you third chances.

Rebekah- That God has a plan for your life and no matter what your circumstances are, He’s in control. Live life to the fullest and look for the rainbows in life!

3. What is the hardest part about the writing process for you?

Brooklyne- Staying excited. Sometimes, when inspiration is hard to come by, I get discouraged and feel like the plot and writing style is not good enough. But then there are the times when I love the characters, and everything fits into place.

Rebekah- Putting down on paper the words that are in my head and heart.

4. What is the best part about the writing process for you?

Brooklyne- When I come across a sentence or two that is really good, like a little nugget of brilliance. XD

Rebekah- Coming up with ideas and making the characters come alive.

5. What is your MC (main character) most passionate about?

Brooklyne- My MC is most passionate about carving a life that is different than her childhood. My secondary MC is most passionate about Ranch life and the people he cares about.

Rebekah- Laura is pretty passionate about trying to take the worst circumstances in life and find the good in them. She’s always trying to help encourage others too.

6. What character do you (the writer) have the least in common with?

Brooklyne- This is a hard one because it seems like I have a little bit in common with all my characters, and some things I don't. Sorry, that was a very vague answer! One of the things I don't have in common with Aimee (My MC) is that her favorite color is hot pink... And I'm not a big fan of the color hot pink.

Rebekah- I guess I have the least in common with Eli, Laura’s dad.

7. What five words would you use to describe your book?

Brooklyne- Forgiveness. Love. Faith. Family. Opposites.

Rebekah- Change, sadness, joy, hope, growth

8. What is the goal word count that you have set for your story?

Brooklyne- I hope to reach somewhere between 60k to 80k words... (I currently have 30k written, so I still have a ways to go!)

Rebekah- I’d like it to be about 46,000 words.

9. What is your wildest dream for your writing journey?

Brooklyne- To become a published author!

Rebekah- To publish my book and go to a homeschool convention to sell my books. I also have other books I want to publish.

10. What do you love about writing Christian Contemporary Fiction?

Brooklyne-- I love writing Christian Contemporary Fiction because you can relate to it. Unlike Historical Fiction, you're writing about things you're more familiar with.

Rebekah- Not having to do research. ;) I enjoy reading historical fiction but I would prefer not to write it. I think it’s easier to write something that takes place in the present time.

~~~
Now for some aesthetic graphics hopefully portraying a little bit of our WIPs!
I made these using Canva...
"If You, LORD, should mark iniquities, O LORD, who could stand? But there is forgiveness with You, That You may be feared." Psalm 130:3,4 NKJV
"And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you." Ephesians 4:32 NKJV
"Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble." Matthew 6:34 NKJV
Rebekah's aesthetics:
"To everything there is a season, A time for every purpose under heaven:" Ecclesiastes 3:1 NKJV
"Not that I speak in regard to need, for I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content." Philippians 4:11 NKJV
"For we walk by faith, not by sight." 2 Corinthians 5:7 NKJV
My Notes from the book Own Your Everyday // Part Two
Last Monday, I did part one of sharing the notes I took from the book Own Your Everyday. Read last Mondays post HERE. Today, I will be sharing the second part, covering chapters 7-12.
Let's get started!
Chapter Seven: Overcoming Comparison with Compassion and Communication
-The danger in comparing our everyday reality with the ideals or expectations we have comes when our real experience don't measure up to our expectations.
-When we fixate on what life "should" be or how things "could" look, we can lack direction in the here and now.
-Remember your "why." Replace jealous thoughts with joyful thoughts. Practice gratitude and cheerful generosity. Let her win. Communicate.
-Keep the purpose behind whatever you're doing in mind, and use that to help you focus on owning your everyday, not theirs.
-Ask more than you assume and communicate more than you compare.
Chapter Eight: Overcoming Perfectionism by Prioritizing
-The root of perfection is insecurity.
-Living in perfectionism is like living inside a hours with mirrors for windows.
-Living our purpose doesn't make us the point, it makes us point to the One who is the point.
-When I operate under the fear of failure, I'm weighed down by the pressure to prove myself and I lose sight of the one priority that matters: what God has given me to do in this season of life.
-You won't bee able to give your best because you'll be so distracted just trying to be the best.
-Purpose is found not in trying to prove we're worthy but in prioritizing what's important so we can be more present in who we're made to be.
-Faithfulness in the small things trumps striving for flawlessness in all things.
Chapter Nine: Overcoming Distraction in Discipline
-Distractions make me a consumer of the world rather than a contributor to the world. But the contributors are the ones who change the world.
-If we feed our souls garbage, or unhealthy distractions, we'll live our daily lives without discipline or direction. When we're unprepared or don't have a plan, we feel overwhelmed and will be much more likely to put unhealthy choices into our "carts," or into our hearts, because they appeal to us in the moment.
-The more passive we become, the less passionate we'll be, leaving us unable to pursue the purpose we're made for.
-Self-awareness is key to overcoming every distraction.
-Make sure the big and small decisions you make are good for both Present You and Future You.
-Write a "to-be" list to prioritize...
Chapter Ten: Focus on Who You Are, Not What You Do
-I can only do what I'm made to do when I know who I am.
-We try to derive our with and identity from what we do and the labels we wear, rather than letting out lives reflect who God is in us and who He says we are.
-When I find my identity in the things of the world-- such as my circumstance, appearance, accomplishments, reputation or status-- purpose will always be out of reach because putting my identity in such places lead to insecurity.
-Insecurity locks the doors. Identity-- knowing who God is in you and living as if you are who He's says you are-- opens them.
Chapter Eleven: Redefine Success
-When I lose the heart, I forget my "why," and that's a disaster. That's when we begin to replaces excellence with the pressure to melt expectations.
-The woman who draws her worth, purpose, and power from her status or other peoples opinions of her will always be a slave to the pressure to be the best.
-The pressure to succeed at everything people see can take away from the ability to truly be successful in the places that are unseen.
-The pressure is off when I accept the fact that I won't always fit the mold of who the world, the church, or other people expect of me to be. I won't always measure up to someone else, and maybe that's ok.
-Take your eyes off the success and status symbols online and consider what success looks like in your personal life.
Chapter Twelve: Let It Go, Girl
-Living with purpose begins with releasing the comforts that have a hold on us so God can do a work in us.
-We must be changed on the inside so we can be the change in the world.
-When our hearts are healthy, we can fearlessly make the hard choices to shed whatever needs to be removed so we can experience real, lasting change. We flourish only when we release control of the lifeless things we've held on to, the things that suck the life out of us, choke the health out of our hearts, and hold us back from living as we should.
So there you have it! Those are the notes I took and sentences that stood out to me while reading Own Your Everyday by Jordan Lee Dooley! I know I've said this before, but I highly recommend reading this book! It is so good!
What chapter notes stood out to you the most? Are you going to get a copy of Own Your Everyday? Did you read part one of my notes?
Also, I wanted to say a huge thank you to all my blog followers!!! I hit 60 followers, and I am just so thrilled! So THANK YOU everyone who reads and has followed Showers of Blessings, y'all are amazing!
My Notes from the book Own Your Everyday // Part One
Today, I'm going to be sharing a few notes I took while reading the book, Own Your Everyday by Jordan Lee Dooley! I highly recommend reading this book if you struggle with finding your purpose, or if you have unfigured-out dreams!
I hope you like reading through these notes I took as I read this book! And just FYI, I will be quoting some of the book, so I didn't come up with most of these notes but these words are from the book, Own Your Everyday...
Intro:
The world puts a pressure on us to "have it all figured out" but this perspective on finding your purpose can be dangerous because it implies that our purpose is something we have to search for, find, and grab hold of, whether it's a job, a title, a degree, or a business. We have shrunk purpose down to what we do on the outside rather than who we are on the inside.
Chapter One: You can't walk through walls
-Doors are essential in life. Doors are the only way we allow others in and the only way we step out. They are also the only way we move beyond the little walls we tend to build around ourselves.
-There is profound purpose in simply meeting other people right where they are at, in stepping into, not away from, their struggles and sharing them.
Chapter Two: What are you really after?
-The Truth? We'll miss who we're made to be when we focus on what we think we're supposed to be.
-God always has a bigger purpose for us than we have for ourselves... we can be so small minded sometimes, focusing only on making it through the door in front of us instead of opening the door of our hearts to see what God has for us.
-Don't try to find your purpose in roles, seasons, or spaces.
-Small steps (before it all makes sense) are really the big steps.
Chapter Three: Breakthrough begins with you
-We waste a lot of time building an image we want the world to see instead of taking responsibility for breaking through the limits we create in our own heads and becoming who we're made to be.
-Covering up the surface only causes more problems beneath the surface, allowing the pesky insecurities to linger longer and have way more power over out lives than they deserve.
-We need to start looking at what's going on deeper, often in our hearts, instead of picking ourselves apart.
-We've got to stop the surface level "show" we put on to prove ourselves.
-To build something great, you must first go beneath the surface. You've got to start in the heart.
-Own up to your insecurities. Acknowledge they exist, and then take action for how you'll deal with them at the root. You get to take responsibility for how you respond.
-If you wouldn't say it to your friend, don't say it to yourself.
Chapter Four: Overcoming Imposter Syndrome with Intentional Action Steps
-You haven't lost your purpose just because you missed an opportunity or failed on your first try.
-I think we cling to the labels more than we realize because labels give us something to quickly impress others with.
-Start envisioning your life as a path to walk on, not as a box to sit in.
-Don't nearly expect failure, but actually prepare for how you will respond when it comes.
-It's not failure, it's learning.
-Don't try to be the person you perceive others expect you to be. Be you, with your wild ideas and funny quirks and unfigured-out dreams and lack of expertise.
-Try stuff before it makes sense, because it doesn't need to make sense in order for God to use it.
Chapter Five: Overcoming Disappointment with a Different Perspective
-We long for clarity, but perhaps true purpose requires closeness with God.
-The most important lessons are the hardest to learn.
-Worry and insecurity lose their grip when you com to grips with the fact that you're not in control (no matter how many prayers you pray) and that you can't trust anything outside of God.
-Maybe we need to fail at what we think we want so we can learn to be faithful with what we already have, right where we are.
-Don't overlook the purpose and opportunity right in front of you. Get back to what really matters, not what you think you missed out on.
Chapter Six: Overcoming Shame by Sharing
-When we see ourselves through a lens of shame, we don't see reality. Wee see what's "wrong" with us rather than who we are. We see a distorted view of what's really there.
-Our insecurities and unrealistic expectations shape the person we believe we should be and lead us to hid who we really are just to prove we are worthy.
God doesn't see us as a set of labels, He sees us through a lens of love-- and love breaks through the warriors we build.
-Humility + vulnerability are necessary for faith and freedom.
-Vulnerability is the key to overcoming the trap that shame sets.
-God gave me a story because it needs sharing-- even when I'm afraid that others will think it's lame.
So those are the first half (Chapters 1-6) of notes I took from reading Own Your Everyday! I hope you liked reading what stood out to me the most! If you haven't read Own Your Everyday, I suggest you go get yourself a copy!! It's so worth it! Trust me.
Part Two will on Wednesday... So stay tuned!
Have you ever read Own Your Everyday? What chapters notes stood out to you the most? Is this book something that you think you would want to read?
Flying Above, Eventually // A poem
Flying Above, Eventually
Written by Brooklyne
One brush stroke
That creates
A wisp, a feather
Of a ink world
One keyboard
A story
Takes roots, like trees
Of a ink world
Flying above, eventually
~~~

Artists turn
Mistakes into
Masterpieces
Of a ink world

Authors turn
Edits into
Fangirl confetti
Of a ink world

Flying above, eventually

~~~
Ink worlds always
Remember
Humble blotches
And meager drafts
Ink worlds never
Are confined
Breaking through all
Barriers
Flying above, eventually!!!
I wrote this poem for a contest a while back, and thought I'd share it with ya'll today! It's suppose to remind us that our creativity can't be confined in the worlds labels or boxes. Or that's what it reminds me of anyway. But I'd love to hear what you think of it in the comments! It's kind of a abstract poem, so we all can get a different message from it... :)
What are your thoughts on this poem? Let me know in the comments!
Sunshine Blogger Award // Liebster Award
Today's post is super fun! Because I'm doing two tags in one post! It's the Sunshine Blogger Award tag AND the Liebster Award tag!
~Sunshine Blogger Award~
Rules:
~Thank the blogger who nominated you and provide a link back to their blog so others can find them. (Thank you Julia!!)
~ List the rules and display an award logo on your blog post. (Up above!)
~ Answer the 11 questions the blogger asked you.
~ Nominate 11 new blogs to receive the award and notify them by commenting on any of their posts.
~ Ask the nominees 11 new questions.
1. What or who has been your greatest inspiration in life?
Um, wow! That's a hard questions to answer! I would say my whole family inspires me, but also reading the Bible and hearing about how Jesus lived when He was on earth, really inspires me too.
2. What’s your cure for when you’re having a bad day?
Boy howdy, another hard one! Lets see, I guess it depends on the bad day. Sometimes taking a four wheeler ride clears my head, or other times I need to go and workout for awhile to work off some steam. Then, somedays I just need to write out my feelings. Or listen to music helps too. Or, help someone with their problems, then you won't focus on your own so much...
3. If you could do anything in the world (and I mean ANYTHING) what would you do?
I would want to rescue all the animals and children in the world who are unloved, help the hurting, and give food and shelter to the homeless.
4. What about people inspire you most/what characteristic do you respect most in people?
I admire when people are genuinely kind.
5. If you could only accomplish ONE thing in your life, and that is what you will go down in the History books known for, what would you want your one great accomplishment to be?
I don't do good with questions like this! I can't ever make up my mind! Um, lets see, I'd want to be known for the girl who didn't do anything "big" in her life, but somehow touched the lives of many in a deep and unforgettable way.
6. Most life changing book and why?
The Bible. It is the most life changing book that has ever and will ever be written. Why? Because it is the inspired word of God! It doesn't get more life changing than that!
7. What does a successful life mean/look like to you?
These are deep questions, girl! To me, a successful life means being content and living in the here and now. In being present for those you love, and working hard but always having time for the things that matter the most.
8. What’s your MBTI type?
Either INFJ or INFP but I'm not sure! *headdesk*
9. Favorite song and why?
I can't decide! I like music too much to have only one favorite song!
10. If the meaning of your name determined your personality, what would you want your name to be? (+include its meaning!)
Adalie means a kind or a kind-hearted person.
11. Everyone’s life is a story, when yours comes to a close, what message do you want it to give?
I would have to think long and hard on this one...
~~~

I nominate the first 11 people who comment!!!

Here are your questions:
1. What is one thing you like about your middle name?
2. If you could play any instrument without having to learn it, what would you play?
3. What's your favorite veggie?
4. How much would you have to be payed to go skydiving?
5. What is your favorite plant and why?
6. What was the first thing you woke up thinking today?
7. Would you rather go swimming or lay out?
8. What is your favorite song to sing with your best friend?
9. Can you do a cartwheel?
10. What is your MBTI type?
11. Do you keep your room clean or messy?

~Liebster Award Tag~

Rules:

Questions:

1. If you could change one thing about your life, what would it be?

I would change my tendency to be a afraid of the unknown.

2. What's your preferred pet?

Dogs, horses, and goats! I love 'em all though!

3. If you could live in any era, which would you choose?

I don't know! The Wild West might be kinda cool...

4. If you could rename your siblings, would you?

Nah, I like their names!

5. Do you have any nicknames? If so - which is your favorite?

I go by Ben, Brooke, May-May, and Maym... but I like May-May best because my little sister came up with it when she couldn't say my real name, so it kinda stuck after that!

6. What is your ideal height?

I use to want to be really tall, but now I like my height at 5'7''!

4. Favorite Bible verse you know by heart?
5. Favorite sea creature?
6. What is your favorite season and what do you like about it?
