Regal Hearts // An Author Interview

Howdy, folks! Again, today I'm breaking my usual posting schedule to share with you some exciting news! I am participating in another book tour!!! This will be my third time doing a author interview, and I am so excited to get started!

I got the privilege to read the first part of Regal Hearts Season One, and let me say, I am very intrigued and really wanting to read more! Livy's writing style is so unique, and that is one of the things that makes these books stand out!

Now, lets get on to the interview!

~~~
1. Tell us a little about yourself and why you are passionate about writing, what made you decide to first start your self-publishing journey?
Hi there! So, I'm a twenty-something author, blogger, singer, songwriter, YouTuber, designer, (I have a lot of passions! Haha) but most importantly I LOVE Jesus and I just want to inspire others to fall in love with Him and live out the plan and purpose He has for their lives! :)
I've been writing ever since I was a little girl. Stories are so powerful, and I just think it's absolutely amazing how words have the potential to impact people. Jesus always taught in parables and I love how stories bypass your mind and go directly to your heart.
I always enjoyed writing fiction growing up, but as a teen, a lot of that was put on the back-burner as I tried to figure out what I wanted to do with my life. The little girl in me believed I had stories I wanted to share with the world, but the "practical" side of me, didn't see how that was very realistic, or how that could make much of an impact.
Fast-forward a few years, and I was running Crown of Beauty Magazine, an online website for Christian teen girls. During that time, the desire to return to fiction was ignited. I finished the rough draft for The Coronation, and asked if anyone on our email list might be interested in Beta reading. Sending out that email was pretty scary. I didn't have much confidence and I had no idea if the story was any good! But the responses astonished me. The story was actually resonating with people. The enjoyed the characters and didn't want to leave the fictitious nation of Tarsurella! That gave me the courage to step out and self-publish my first book. And since that moment, things continued to snowball! I'm now on the verge of releasing Book #3 in The Tales of Tarsurella series, and have some more top-secret projects in store as well. ;)
2. If I understand correctly, Regal Hearts is two books in seasons. And you have written Season One and Season Two? How does writing in seasons work?
Yes! So, the idea for Regal Hearts came with the rather unconventional thought, "What I wrote this story in a TV show format?" I wrote each segment as an "episode", introducing a large cast of character, just as one might see on a television show, hopping around in omnipresent style.
One of my dreams is to someday produce T.V. shows, and I felt like the first step toward working in that direction, was to write the script for Regal Hearts. Once I was finished writing the first few episodes, I knew I wasn't at a place in my life yet where it was time to bring it to production, so I thought, "What if I could share these stories before they hit the big screen? That way, I can invite others along for the journey, and hopefully encourage and inspire them to pursue their dreams, even in tiny baby-steps."
So, Regal Hearts was originally released on a weekly basis, a new episode every Friday, for those who wanted some fun, Christ-centered entertainment in their lives, but couldn't find anything to watch on the weekends! After I released the first ten episodes online, a handful of readers asked if I would put them in a bundle and release it via paperback, so they didn't have to read on their screens. So, that's why I refer to them as episodes and seasons. I know it's not very traditional, but I love doing new things, and when you're an indie author, who says you have to follow the rules anyway?! :D
3. How long did it take you to write Regal Hearts?
When I first started working on Regal Hearts, I set the goal of writing five pages a day. Each episode is 25 pages, so it averaged about a week per episode. Ten episodes, would be ten weeks, approximately.
4. What character in Regal Hearts is your favorite, and who do you relate with the most?
My favorite character is definitely Arden! With some characters, you really have to develop and take time to get to know them, but with Arden, it was like he just showed up in my mind and shouted, "I'm here, let's get the party started!" Some characters have the ability to write themselves, and Arden is absolutely one of those characters! I can't tell you how many times I laughed when writing a scene with him, because his dialogue would just come flying onto the page and I'd have to ask, "Who are you and where did you come from? This is SO not me!" Haha! I love when that happens, because then you know the character is authentic and you're not just creating another version of yourself on the page.
But as far as who I relate to the most, I would probably say Emma. Though she's much quieter and sarcastic than I am, I think we have a lot in common.
5. What is the best part about the writing/publishing process for you?
This is going to sound very cliche, but the best part about writing is...writing! Haha, I truly love being able to let my creative spirit soar on the page, and writing is a lot like returning to the playground and letting my inner little-girl run wild. :)
But in addition to that, I love connecting with readers. It's just so incredibly humbling to hear that people are enjoying the stories, falling in love with the characters, or learning something new from what the characters are going through. It means so much to me that people would take time out of their busy lives to read these books, it's just amazing! I still haven't gotten used to that! Haha.
6. What is the hardest part about the writing/publishing process for you?
I think one of the hardest parts is just remaining confident and trusting God when I feel discouraged. Oftentimes it can be so temping to compare ourselves to others, wish we were further along in the process, wish we were selling more books, reaching more people, etc, but we have to remember that God has SO MUCH PURPOSE in the process! I am where I'm at for a reason, and if He's okay with me being here, then so am I.
7. What lesson would you like your readers to take away from reading Regal Hearts?
One of my main prayers for Regal Hearts, is that it would inspire and remind people that they DON'T have to settle. Growing up, I could never find what I wanted to read. I know everyone has different standards for what they allow to enter their hearts and minds, but I wanted my entertainment to be clean, pure, and pleasing to God. Something that would draw me closer to Him, inspire me, and give me tools for becoming the best version of myself for His glory! Sadly, when I look back at my teen years, I don't see that content evident in my life. I could never find the entertainment I wanted, so I decided to create my own, in hopes that someday, my children will be able to experience the joy of going on amazing adventures without having to settle for lowering their standards and allowing garbage into their minds. I know Regal Hearts won't be everyone's cup of tea, but I truly hope that those who find themselves drawn into the story, will be encouraged by the fact that there is a remnant of Christian creatives striving to fill our imaginations with joy, challenges, tears and triumphs: and that the cinema can be beautiful. Regal Hearts might not be on the big screen yet, but for those who allow the saga to play on the big screen of their hearts, I hope they will be ignited to embrace what God has called them to do, and pursue it wholeheartedly.
Synopsis:
The King's blue flame quivers as a new fire arises, and Kadira must hold fast to the torch.  It's destiny; she's a torch keeper.
A fiery revolution sweeps across the kingdom of Érkeos, and each person must choose a side.  Kadira, a girl set apart to serve the King, finds her city engulfed in emerald flames.  Her blue eyes mark her as the enemy, and she flees from death.  It stalks her anyway.  When she meets Rekém, the Liberation warrior sent to kill her, she rebels against the King's ways.  Two armies collide; indecision isn't an option.  As hearts and lives hang in the balance, Kadira and Rekém could bring destruction or liberation to the entire kingdom.
Now, to get on with todays post! We decided to do a "Remember when" post, where we talk about the good ol' days! *winks* I am in the yellowish color, and daddy will be using the corn huskers red color!
Lets begin!
Remember the time when...
I would pretend to sleep so you would carry me in from the car?
Remember the time when...
I surprised you with a date and I made a little book with date ideas so you could pick what we did?
Remember the time when...
You you would sneak into our room as the tooth fairy and we made it a game to catch you in the act of leaving money to prove that you were, indeed, the tooth fairy?
Remember the time when...
I wanted you to love playing tennis as much as I do, and so I brought you to tennis lessons and you wore your cowboy boots. After the hour lesson, the teacher said, "Brooklyne has got some natural talent, even in cowboy boots." (I was kind of embarrassed that she brought her cowboy boots instead of wearing tennis shoes!)
Remember the time when...
We went on a birthday drive to our storage unit and I got to crawl around all our stuff! I remember that was super fun, then after that, we went to a store and bought birthday party balloons. (which we then made funny faces in the reflective foil on the balloon!) It was like Cam-Wow....
Remember the time when...
I decided to take you girls on a off-roading adventure! We took the old green truck out in a cornfield (after it had been harvested *winks*) and cranked the music up really loud! You all talked about that for a long time, saying how fun it was to have been bounced around in the backseat. XD
Remember the time when...
You helped me practice driving a stick shift with a jeep. We drove circles and circles in a church parking lot! I didn't kill it once! (Or maybe I blocked that part, who knows.)
Remember the time when...
You were a baby, and I would try and make you laugh. I would pretend-sneeze and you would laugh so hard you would spit up your breakfast milk/cereal. It sometimes came out your nose! (side note: you loved to feed our dogs {Allie} from your highchair plate.)
Remember the time when...
When I was driving our little Yamaha motorcycle (50cc) for the first time by myself. I first started off, and Daddy was helping me balance for a little bit, until I took off (on accident, mind you.) I kept going faster and faster, but I remember trying to brake. (The gas was twisting the throttle, and I thought it was the brake.)  All the while, dogging apple trees in the field as Daddy was running after me yelling "brake!" Yup, so I kept going faster thinking I was putting on the brakes! Finally, I hit into some bushes, and there happened to be a hose draped across two trees that stopped me. That was a adventure... and another of my guardian angel scenarios!
Remember the time when...
You and your sisters brought me "butterscotch pudding" to eat... turns out it was leftover thanksgiving gravy! Not what I was expecting! I probably tried to return the favor with a prank jellybean! *grins*
Remember the time when...
Either of us get upfront in church, we always double wink at each other. It's tradition! *wink wink*
 Remember the time when...
We double-teamed washing Rosie, if I remember correctly, we both ended up getting soaked! Rosie sure looked nice and shiny by the time we were done, though!
Remember the time when...
We both decided to walk along the creek in the wintertime. I don't know how far we walked, but we ended up a long way away from our property! That was fun! :)
Remember the time when...
I had the bright idea to surprise your mom for mothers day with a shrink-a-dink gift. We had fun making those, but... they didn't turn out as planned (took us six hours.) Although they did made good Christmas tree ornaments!
Remember the time when...
You brought me to paint pottery, we made a gum ball machine money bank! We made people out of our thumbprints, complete with hair, as our signatures! (They also gave us free ice cream which was a plus to that fun day!)
Remember the time when...
We were on vacation and rode horses on the beach. I got a big Percheron horse (FYI, I don't make it a habit of riding horses...) that was cantering fast, you were right behind me on your gaited horse and I was worried that I was going to bounce right off and you would run over me. In the end, we still  had a blast!
~~~

Well, I had a lot of fun "remembering when" with you, Daddy! Thanks for helping me with my Family Forever Month post!

Here are some pictures of my dad and I!

I hope ya'll liked getting to know my family members this month! I had a lot of fun introducing my family to you! <3 And I hope you enjoyed this blog series as much as I did!

Thanks for reading this last Family Forever Month post! Do you have any similar "remember when" moments as me and my dad do? Have you ever pranked your dad into eating cold gravy? I'll see you in the comments below!

Welcome to Showers of Blessings, Mama!

I am honored to have been asked by my sweet Brooklyne to do a guest post on her blog.  This is so important to me because I know how special all of her readers, followers, and fellow bloggers are to her. <Wink> (Did I do that right?) <smiles>

I have been praying about what to share with you all.  I sit here with my little doggies on my lap, thinking about what God has taught me in my 47 years of life that would be relevant to young people today.  I decided to write a letter to my younger self.  So here goes!

~~~
Dear 18 year old Jennie,
  I can’t believe that you are in your last year of high school.  I know its been hard moving to a new high school, in a new state, and having your parents get divorced, but this is your second year here and you are surviving.  I see you fretting so over getting good grades, trying to please your new teachers, your parents, and trying to keep a high enough GPA to get into those college classes that you can take for free as a high school senior.  I wish for you to do your very best, but understand that you are not responsible to make other people happy with your academic accomplishments.  Others happiness is not up to you, its up to God.  So do your best and try to have balance in your school life and your social life and leave the rest up to God.
  Speaking of social life…I am excited for you to have new friends.  I know you wish they were deep friendships like you had with your friend Rhonda in grade school, but hang in there.  High school is so different since everyone is growing up and testing everything.  Look for Godly friends, Jennie.  Friends that will encourage you to have a relationship with God.  Friends that you can have fun with.  Safe fun, silly fun, innocent fun, no regrets kind of fun!  For it is the decisions that you make with these friends that have the potential to change your life forever.  Changes for the good or the bad.  So sit down with your journal… you and God…and decide ahead of time how you will handle situations that you know will come up.  Drugs, sex, staying out past curfew, modesty, alcohol, smoking, cussing, dangerous dares, cheating in school, stealing, and the list can go on and on.  But make your decisions with Gods help before you are actually confronted with them.  This way when you are in the moment you won’t have to make a “game time decision” because you already know what to do.  This will take a lot of pressure off of you and save you a lot of regret later in life.
  Another thing I wanted to talk to you about are those days when you feel like you have more questions than answers.  Those are confusing, overwhelming times and everyone has them.  I know it may seem like all of your friends have it all together and know exactly which life path to take and never have down days, but that simply isn't true.  (Just be glad you don’t live in the era of social media…someday you will understand)  EVERYONE that walks this earth has a cross to bear.  Sometimes we know what others crosses are and sometimes we don’t.  At one point or another everyone has questions like.. what to be when you grow up?  Wether you will marry or not?  Wether you want to have children or not?  If you really are comfortable and confident with your own body?  When the second coming will actually happen and if you will be able to stand strong in the end of time?  If you are a good sister and daughter?  If you are “good enough” at anything?  Deep breath sweet girl, all of these questions will find there way of working out.  And when satan tries to beat you up with finding all of the answers RIGHT NOW please remember that your God is not the author of confusion, satan is.  Satan will always try to cause you to be moved by your “feeler” instead of your “thinker.”  Remember who has already defeated satan …GOD!  So stay close to Jesus.  You may not know the answers to these questions for years and years so give them to God.  Don’t let worry steal the joy that you have today.  Share with God your questions, fears, concerns.  Try writing God a letter and then listen….and look for God to speak to you.  Because I know He loves you with such a deep everlasting love.  Look for his love in nature, in the kindness of a stranger, in the eyes of a dear pet.
  Don't worry about the future for it will take care of itself.  Be present, live fully, and love deeply those people that God has placed in your life.  You are a treasured child of the King.  Made uniquely YOU for the calling that God has placed you on this earth to do.  Live each day to honor and please God and you will find a peace like no other.
Love,
47 year old Jennie
